Review of Next Day Air (2009) by Jeff S — 24 May 2009
This movie is EXACTLY what you would expect it to be, based on the starring cast without any real "stars," the somewhat comical preview, and the fact that it was directed by another music video director trying to crossover into full-length film.
So add Benny Boom to the list of video directors who failed on the big screen and give him this years "Hype Williams - Belly" award. Damn you F. Gary Grey for making a successful transition into real movies, and fueling the fires of false hope for the rest of these lanes, convincing them that they can make real movies.
But back to this movie... Mos Def is not as funny as you will expect him to be, and Donald Faison is by no means a leading man. Add in a misplaced Eddie Winslow (Family Matters) as the tough guy muscle, and those same Latin guys who play gang bangers/drug dealers in every movie, and the casting really seems questionable.
There were a few funny moments and a pretty surprising ending, but all in all the one should be avoided.
