Review of Next (2007) by J K — 17 Dec 2009
Next tries so hard to be a genius action flick. It isn't. I respect Nicolas Cage (most do not sadly) as an actor because he can get into his roles no matter how painfully mediocre the material is. Next does not falter under acting but by its painfully arbitrary plot that seems to be making itself up as it goes along. Cage plays Cris Johnson, a normal guy valuable to the feds because he can predict the future. An interesting concept goes way south when, all of a sudden, Johnson can duplicate himself and perform various other powers that were never ever implied. If there was a reasonable plot in this mess than the film may earn the 50% but the plot here really flops. The ending isn't wowing, it is just confusing. However, Cage's and Biel's chemistry is acceptable as it makes a very terrible movie only weak in general.
I Say-Skip it.
