Review of Newsies (1992) by Jonny 9 — 21 Jun 2009
Newsies gained cache in recent years because it is the directorial debut of High School Musical master Kenny Ortega; it plays like a first attempt. The film's major shortcoming is length - about 20 minutes could have been cut with little lost and much buoyancy gained.
Also, Christian Bale took the lead role way too seriously for a musical. Go see a musical on stage instead.
