Review of Newsies (1992) by Trevor B — 21 Sep 2009
The great irony in musicals is that they so often are the story of folks down on their luck... and yet, these down-on-their-luck folks have incredible skills in singing and dancing. They should be able to make a living at that, right? But the Newsies.
.. what you have is a decent story with some fun characters, but nothing spectacular. The song and dance numbers are great and catchy, but there aren't quite enough of them to cover up the not-so-great talking bits (there was some very poorly written dialog in there).
Furthermore, since Christian Bale can sing, I think the next Batman movie should be a musical.
