Review of Newsies (1992) by Alex H — 26 Jan 2010
While the music and choreography is excellent, I just can't take the serious parts of the movie seriously. I mean, a newspaper writer has a choice between helping some kids who sell newspapers strike....and reporting on a war. And he chooses the kids. Since it's based on a true story, I don't think a musical should have been the correct choice for telling this story.
That being said, it does great as a musical. It just lacks at being serious in a way that makes you laugh.
