Review of New York Stories (1989) by Paul J — 20 Jul 2009
The Scorsese and Allen segments were both really good. Scorsese's had stunning cinematography and a great performance by Nick Nolte. Allen's segment was really funny and delightfully quirky. The problem comes with Coppola's segment.
It plainly sucks, it's boring, dumb, and makes no sense at all. It's the middle segment so the movie starts and ends strong, and fortunately it's the shortest of the three. I'm beginning to think that Francis Ford Coppola isn't really that great of a filmmaker, it's like Apocalypse Now wore him out or something.
He's made like 2 good movies in the past 30 years.
