Review of New York, New York (1977) by Paul J — 24 Mar 2008
Why the fuck does everyone hate this movie? It's one of Scorsese's most underrated. So many little details went into the movie feeling 'old' - a perfect homage to the classic 1950's musical / melodrama, still with a hint of a modern 70's atmosphere.
De Niro's performance was piss poor at first, but as his character matured his performance grew much greater, and almost up to par with his turns in Raging Bull and The Deer Hunter. Liza Manelli was great as well, despite being butt ugly.
I definitely recommend this. Fuck IMDb. 8.5/10.
