Review of New York, I Love You (2008) by Luis M — 15 Mar 2010
Umm, wha...?
That's probably the reaction you're gonna get.
The shorts don't gel, transitioning awkwardly from one to another. Even with an A-list cast of Bradley Cooper (who is mad love), Shia LaBeouf (those eyes are gorgeous), Orlando Bloom, Rachel Bilson (mad love for her too), Natalie Portman AND Hayden Christensen (that's Queen Amidala & Luke Skywalker, yo), nothing worked very well.
The shorts are not without its charm though, & the ones that leave a lasting impression are ironically the ones without the big names, namely the 2 segments directed by Brett Ratner & Joshua Marston.
The former, with adorable Anton Yelchin, is whimsical & funny, painting a high school prom with shades of colours. Unfortunately, Blake Lively doesn't work, because she's just being...well, Serena Van Der Woodsen. The latter, with the elderly couple, is sweet & extremely touching, & it draws the most chuckles.
After the movie ended (abruptly, might I add), Daryl summed it up with a loud "What the fuck?", while I went "I don't get it" in my best Gobbler (of When the Whistle Blows in Extras) impression.
