Review of New York, I Love You (2008) by Nisrin A — 18 Mar 2010
I saw this movie just last night and I was somewhat impressed. There were a number of people who didn't like the movie overall but I guess that is because they have seen the film's original, Paris Je t'aime. I haven't seen Paris Je T'aime yet so I guess that is why I liked the movie.
Anyway, New York, I Love You is about 10 (or was it 11?) short clips each representing a different borough of New York. From Brooklyn, to Soho, to Chinatown..Each clip presents a story about love and romance and how two people (who sometimes are total strangers) meet and fall in love. Some clips presents the love of a Latino father to her Caucasian daughter, or the everlasting love between two old married couples who may constantly bicker, but at the end of the day still always seeks the comfort of each other's arms. Some of the clips for me were not that spectacular like the Orlando Bloom/Christina Ricci.
Each clip is directed by a different director. The characters in the story seldom mix and the stories are not interconnected like how some ensemble movies are made. The cast are made up of really good actors and actresses. Natalie Portman, Bradley Cooper, Shia LaBeouf, Julie Christie, Orlando Bloom, Christina Ricci, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Andy Garcia, Shu Qi, Maggie Q, Jacinda Barrett and many many more. The film might not impress everyone but it sure did wowed me. and because of this, I am looking forward now to seeing Paris Je T'aime.
