Review of New York, I Love You (2008) by Joe I — 03 Apr 2010
What a fucking letdown of a movie. This movie should not be called what it is called. There is not a single story in there I couldn't tell in let's say, Boston or Philadelphia. For you to have such a rich city as New York with so many things people don't ever get to see on the big screen.
.. And then I can find 1000 movies that show more about the spirit of New York than this. It makes me angry. And I don't need to see the Empire State Building or the Flatiron or things like that...
But if this is a romantic movie. And New York is an everything city, specially romantic. Please be romantic. Show stories unique to people of different NY neighborhoods. How can you not have Williamsburg or Harlem or the Upper West Side or even freaking Bayridge in a movie like this? The best segment is the one directed by Natalie Portman.
Oh and what a collection of terrible actors. Chris Cooper... Ethan Hawke... Robin Wright, what the hell were you doing in this movie? Vastly inferior to the Paris movie. What a wasted opportunity.
