Review of New York, I Love You (2008) by Isabel M — 19 May 2010
I was ready to enjoy this film, it had potentia,l but was underwhelmed. No narrative, with the exception of one or two segments. I didn't feel any connection or uniqueness to NY - it could've been anywhere - and I couldn't engage with many of the characters.
Self-indulgent direction in parts (the Portman & the Chrisie/LaBeouf stories) - I felt manipulated and that it tried too hard. By all means manipulate me, but I shouldn't realise. There were moments of cleverness but they were few.
