Review of New York, I Love You (2008) by Carolina M — 19 May 2010
It's hard not to compare this film with "Paris, je t'aime," the French film this was inspired by. Like that film, some of the stories (each written and directed by different talent) were good and some were not so good (and some, simply boring).
Overall, "Paris, je t'aime" not only had more solid stories but showed off Paris better than this film displayed New York. New York is an incredible and exciting city and many directors have used film to highlight that, most notably Woody Allen.
But many opportunities were lost in this film, much of it taking place on identifiable streets at night that could have been filmed in any busy city in North America. Sure, the people of New York came across but the backdrop less so.
If the directors behind this film REALLY love New York, they might want to consult with Woody Allen before they film their next movie in the city.
