Review of New York, I Love You (2008) by Ian F — 30 Sep 2010

I don't know why the critics hated this so much, I loved it; I was giddy at one point! GIDDY! It started out shaky and I'll give it that; I honestly did ask what am I getting myself into. But it picked up. Breakdown:

Segment 1: Okay, so I was wondering if I could get into this at this point. It was shot differently and honestly, I had my doubts. But between the chemistry, the fast talk and fast moves, I got into it fast. Luckily, the twist ending got some closure later in the film's whole.

Segment 2: Again, I didn't think I would get into this, but I did. But they talked so fast I felt I was missing stuff, and I didn't want to because it was so good! It was very good and very well written!

Segment 3: At this point I loved this movie! Sweet and charming and with notable actors you couldn't recognize, I loved this section!

Segment 4: This segment is spread throughout the film but it none-the-less is a very interesting one to watch. Enjoyable. The second part of it (seen later in the film) was so clever and quick, I had to rewind it and see if I saw the clues. Very well done.

Segment 5: I actually think this was to turning point because it was so funny and odd but overall wonderful!

Segment 6: Spellbinding and true.

Segment 7: For Anthony Minghella's last film, it was a good one. The most visual of the shorts, it was the most spellbinding. I could not take my eyes of it. Odd yes, but none-the-less moving. And Shia LaBeouf can act!

Segment 8: It kind of works as a comedown, which is sad as then it isn't as good as the others- especially the previous section. None-the-less, it still works as a good, solid piece.

Segment 9: This one works as an even further comedown. It doesn't fit as well as the others but does fit into the theme better.

Segment 10: This section is heartbreaking and full of love and comedy; I loved this section. Great work!

Transition: I liked it, it was cute and real!

Deleted segments: I liked both but I see why they were deleted; they didn't really fit. And the Kevin Bacon one is a little disturbing/weird.

Overall, this is a solid piece with hiccups along the way. Some masterpieces, some... not so much!
