Review of New York, I Love You (2008) by Kaylen M — 17 May 2010
I don't know if the director's of New York I Love You had any more to their brief than just the city to link their stories, but a surprising amount of the tales in this omnibus effort are about first time encounters. Maybe that says something about the ability New York has to attract new inhabitants and visitors. Whatever it is, I love watching characters in a film connect for the first time, so I was spoilt rotten by so many first time encounters here.
To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this, these films are inherently so uneven, but I found this to be generally more interesting than most of its type. It is at times funny, intriguing and haunting. It has its lulls, and it doesn't build to anything of great consequence, but it has many fine moments.
