Review of New Rose Hotel (1999) by Jai N — 01 Sep 2007

Somehow it doesn't quite work. it's a slow paced story, but the over the top performance by Walken keeps you watching (as does the very sexy Asia Argento) but it is all ruined at the end when the twists and double-crosses are explained by re-showing pretty much all the film's key scenes.

sort of assumes the viewer is too dim to recall what they saw 30 minutes previously. but I assume this is due to the trouble of adapting a short story and trying not to end up with a short film as well.
