Review of New in Town (2009) by Tia S — 15 Jul 2009
The movie hit home as being a full blooded Minnesotan I truly now how cold it can get and I could relate to the way the people in a small town come together along with scrapbooking, gift exchange, cold floors during winter months, etc.
The one thing that really turned me away is "WE DON'T TALK THAT WAY IN MINNESOTA"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The accent they used is one you would find at the way northern border maybe, but more into Canada.
I hate when they sterotype us like that, maybe would of been a good idea for them to read up or live with us for awhile before picking their accents. I live in a little town called Welcome, MN which is roughly 1 1/2 hours from New Ulm and no one around here talks that way.
Oh well, some people never learn and we'll always be known for talking with a heavy accent because of this movie and the movie "Fargo".
