Review of Never Say Never Again (1983) by Robert B — 14 Jul 2009
I had vague fond memories of watching it as a kid, but I've always liked most Bond films especially the Connery ones, watched this again recently and wow! Is it bad. A remake of Thunderball. The worst part is the lame 1980's lounge lizard soundtrack, which according to Kirschner's commentary track is what he hates about the film also.
This film had everything going against it as the Broccoli family with the rights to all the other Bond books did everything they could to kill the film in court and Warner Bros didn't put much into the budget.
The best parts are Barbara Carrera has an awesome seductive maniacal Bond villain and Sean Connery. They're the only reasons to even try to watch this movie. Maybe WB will get sentimental and let Kirschner do a special director's edition with a new soundtrack.
That alone would do wonders.
