The characters accept what they were designed for. Acceptance and resignation are not themes that we see very often. Fight or flee are two "instincts" that humans emphasize a lot. But thinking about one's situation and considering how your sacrifice can help someone else is not so common.
How many people would you actually give your life for? Your mate? Your family? A stranger? I think this was one of the best movies that I have ever seen.
