Review of Never Let Me Go (2010) by Valerie P — 18 Jan 2012
Reminiscent of plots like The Island or the classic, Logan's Run, this is the story of people who are bred only for the purpose of donating their vital organs to the "real" people in the world.
Unlike the other movies mentioned, this film does not take place in a sci-fi future, but is rather begins in the 70's and takes us through to present day. There is no scenes of daring action, no rescues, breakthroughs, or even uplifting moments.
It is merely a snapshot of this harsh, fictional reality and how it effects those forced to comply. I found it odd that there were no attempts at escape, changed identities, anything that remotely showed the will to break the vicious cycle.
I wanted more from these very human clones. It was hard to accept their compliance. Perhaps the novel showed more interaction between humans and clones, but the film left a lot of questions unanswered.
In a word - sad. Heartbreakingly sad and hopeless.
