Review of Never Let Me Go (2010) by Tom D — 22 Mar 2012
A moving and beautifully made film. Like Don McKeller's 1998 film Last Night, it's strength is in exploring how characters behave when constrained by factors over which they have little control.
The central conceit is an allegory; not intended to be plausible, but a way of playing out these ideas in a world that is disturbingly familiar to us. The film respects this by avoiding simplistic direct moralising and instead playing out the story from the characters' eyes.
