Review of Never Let Me Go (2010) by Dean M — 04 Sep 2011
A sci-fi dystopia in which unsuspecting children are raised in boarding-school as future organ donors. A childhood love triangle evolves into the hope of prolonged survival as two of the children hope their love will grant them a deferral from their inevitable fate.
Unfortunately, the rumor of deferrals for those in love was just that, a rumor. A melancholic and fatalistic film whose beauty was lost in the absence of hope. The movie lacked depth and understanding in its exploration of the human condition - "We didn't have The Gallery in order to look into your souls.
We had The Gallery to see if you had souls at all." What an absurd evaluation model. The most frustrating part is that at no point in the movie do the condemned seem to consider just not showing up for their organ donations; they willingly submit to their death.
