Review of Never Back Down (2008) by Nicholas Y — 22 Sep 2009
This film was very entertaining in a way that it actually kept me interested. The recent mixed martial arts movies were descent, but this movie puts them all in a "leg lock" as far as im concerned.
To go from a farm boy with little training to "Beatdown Champion" is a bit much, but the road to that title was brutal. The fact that Baja Miller set him up at the party was the turning point in the film.
Granted Jake Tyler's attitude was bound to get him into trouble eventually, but that beating surely wouldn't have been as bad as the one Ryan McCarthy had in store for him. I thought that the entire plot of the movie was well organized and the cast fell into place really nice.
Some acting seemed alittle staged, but for the most part it seemed fluent and realistic. All in all I would say that this film was the most entertaining mixed martial arts films that have yet to hit the big screen.
