Review of Never Back Down (2008) by Jeremy S — 08 Oct 2009
It's your pretty typical underdog sports movie, with all the elements needed: the troubled hero, the sidekick, the hot chick, the jerk enemy, and the noble master. The training montage would make even Rocky proud, and the storyline will be familiar to anyone who's seen The Karate Kid.
But despite the derivative nature, the movie still manages to entertain, helped by the addition of MMA, which manages to bring a new twist. Sean Faris was a decent hero, and Amber Heard is rather aesthetically pleasing, if you know what I mean.
Overall, the movie is solid, if not entirely original, entertainment.
