Review of Never Back Down (2008) by Michael C — 23 May 2012

Great pump up movie! Following in the footsteps of Karate Kid and Rocky it?s the underdog story but for mixed martial arts with plenty of training montages to make the guys want to put the boxing bags back up.

Guys should enjoy the fight scenes and be thankful that there is no wax-on, wax-off or ?catching chickens? type training techniques in this movie. The girls however will like the movie for an entirely different reason, the abs.

What with the constant display of abs and the bloodthirsty underground fighting I couldn?t help but be reminded of Brad Pitt in his ground breaking performance in Fight Club. Hopefully like Pitt, Cam Gigandet?s abs can lead him into some roles where he can truly show his great acting ability.

That being said the movie is nothing like, nor anywhere near as good as Fight Club, it is a teen movie with the familiar plot outline as the martial arts movies before it. I?d recommend it to anyone who is looking to watch a good action, sports drama, however be wary of taking your girlfriend unless you?re a CK underwear model.
