Review of Network (1976) by Devilish G — 18 Apr 2012
I think after my second watch of this I really started to love it. Years ago when I first saw it, afterwards I kept thinking back on it. This is a perfect companion film to go along with Videodrome. There is a sense that someone can be programmed by what they see on their television and the character Diana who is doing the programming seems to be a bit programmed herself.
This made me think back to Videodrome where the main character Max Renn (noticed one of the main character's in Network was named Max, who was the main person interacting with the Diana character).
Max Renn is Videodrome was getting reprogrammed and having hallucinations because he saw Videodrome and he got a brain tumor from it. Then they were reprogramming him by sticking a videocassette into him.
Network brings up some important issues involving television and the people who watch it. It's also quite humorous. The ending of the film is also similar to Videodrome. I could tie a nice little bow around the two films and call them a match.
