Review of Network (1976) by Jordan B — 26 Aug 2013
"Network" is a satire that accurately showcased how the media would evolve into a ratings-thirsty, infotainment juggernaut, and how the public would be willing to eat up such manufactured tripe without paying any attention to the corporate maneuvering that takes place behind the scenes.
Finch's Beale is one of cinema's most memorable characters, not just because he's a hilarious firecracker, but also because he has become a timeless representation of the types of personalities broadcast corporations look for.
Beyond its cultural and political themes, though, "Network" is entertaining, hilarious, and directed with precision.
