Review of Network (1976) by Leena L — 19 Oct 2014
"Network" (1976) is the most depressingly accurate statement ever made about North American television audiences. Nothing shocks viewers any more, and the general public is perfectly content to let vacuous talking heads on television tell them what to think.
Peter Finch, who became the first posthumous Oscar winner when he died shortly after the film's release, gives the performance of a lifetime as the mad prophet of the airwaves, Howard Beale. Faye Dunaway is likewise tremendous as a cold, calculating network executive who gets turned on sexually by talking about ratings.
