Review of Network (1976) by Adrian B — 12 Jul 2010
I was completely blindsided by this film in both its language and storyline. It is horrifying good, which is one of many ways to describe it. It has many funny bits, especially with the repitition of the infamous quote by crowds of people. The acting is downright superb, thanks to William Holden, Peter Finch, and the amazing Faye Dunnaway (quite a different role in this film from that of Bonnie and Clyde). I also like the fact that they mention many other TV shows on other stations, such as All in the Family and Mary Tyler Moore. Though I now love this film, there is a little too much vulgarity, but its impact is not as significant, though sometimes not needed. Surprising how middle-aged professionals would speak such vocabulary. What an absolutely brilliant film. On a side note, there are several actors who have appeared regularily in sitcoms, including:
Jordan Charney: Three's Company.
Conchata Ferrell: Two and a Half Men.
Ned Beatty: Rosseane.
After watching this film, you wonder if major stations sort of like this have this type of evil floating around in the background, where the camera does not go. One easily comes to mind: FOX!
