Review of Network (1976) by Kilo D — 18 Jul 2012
One of the best screenplays ever. Period.
Perfection - Pauline kael, sorry, I have to disagree with you on this movie. Kael argues that "Network" is just one long rant but for me it is a masterwork of black comedy that tears apart the daily business of life with wit and style. Its raging passion is not directed in one place, to make a lazy comparison, "Network" is a work of genius like "infinite Jest". I compare the two because they're both bold in style, have flashy tropes and a penchant for essentially warning us viewers/readers of a future/current world. But does that make it a good movie? Well, "Network" is an outstanding work of genius, to say nothing of its prophetic and powerful magic -70's filmmaking at its finest.
