Despite its predictable and anticlimactic climax...I really enjoyed the film and the 2 leading actors chemistry. The story's premise is very accurate to today's social media and it wouldn't surprise me if this actually happens not indicating that the online show "The Runner" has any relation to the concept.
Overall definitely worth the watch!
