Review of Neruda (2016) by Tor M — 10 Jan 2018
Pablo Neruda, a Nobel Prizw-winning poet from Chile is hunted down from an inspector after Pablo joined the Communist Party in the late 1940's. A rather interesting story, even if I never really heard of the guy. It's kind of a cat and mouse game, with a lack of action.
That's the achilles heel here - it's pretty boring. It looks good, the acting is nice and the pace and presentation is solid. An all right score as well, but at times a bit repitative. The last half hour or so is much better, but I'm unsure why. Maybe the hunt from the inspector, superbly played out by Gael García Bernal, is finally going somewhere, somewhere with more nature and sweeter, less stressful shots. Everything is a bit purer and less compicated. I don't know, but I like that part better by far.
Maybe I picked the wrong day, maybe it will grow on me. My first impression is OK, but I was left a bit disappointed.
6 out of 10 poems.
