Review of Neighbors (2014) by Yannis A — 30 Apr 2016
This is hilarious and heartwarming on so many levels. It contrasts wonderfully with 'while we're young' which rationalizes the 40+ generation at the expense of the millennial. The latter are rendered caricatured selfish hipsters, which is a condescending and biased point of view.
The film creates a gap between the generations that negates compatibility. Neighbors on the other hand allots two dimensionality to all of its characters, including the frat boys. The film is about change and reconciliation with change.
Part of changing is reconciling with those things we can't do anymore. However, Mac and Kelly aren't rationalized at the expense of Teddy's and Pete's integrity. Everyone is simply at different stages of their life.
