Review of Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) by Jacob B — 21 Apr 2017
Neighbors 2 is as funny and gleefully raunchy as its predecessor and the cast still charms in a way. Sadly, the film leaves the adulthood-themed messages from the first film stranded in the middle of the desert in favour of an unnecessary sequel that's basically the first film with the opposite sex.
And this criticism that results in the film getting 3 stars from me is coming from someone who actually likes Seth Rogen. Not loves, likes. I mean, is the subplot involving an engaged gay couple really necessary? Did we really need to see a movie where Zac Efron is trying to find a purpose in life since it was originally all about the fraternity? Well, okay there's a bit of charm there.
But the film seems like a ploy to make a quick buck especially when you take into account the fact that this is Rogen's first live-action sequel. An intermittently funny movie which is still just an opposite-sex rehash of its predecessor.
