Review of Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) by Cade H — 21 May 2016
Neighbors 2 seems like a good idea in premise but somehow they messed up what should of been an easy, fun comedy. There were still some great moments and hilarious scenes in the first half of the film but besides those, everything else was below average.
In the original, the cast of frat brothers were all entertaining and funny so rightfully Neighbors 2 tried to make a funny group of sorority sisters. They failed miserably as not a single one of the girls were funny, entertaining or memorable.
That left all of the comedy on Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne who did a good job but it was tough for them to carry the entire load. Also, with a sorority you would expect wild parties, scantily clad women, pretty much a sexually infused good time, but they took all of that and made the girls feminist who just wanted to party on their own terms without being seen as "hot" girls.
For a movie of this type, taking that route was a horrible idea. So many scenes didn't make sense, dragged on to long, or just missed with the laughs entirely. Neighbors 1 was a much better movie and this is only worth seeing if you want to see where the characters are now and if you can wade through a lot of boring to get a few good laughs.
