Review of Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) by Jon E — 31 May 2016
'Sorority Rising' delivers everything that can be expected from a sequel. That is, to a film which can only function on one premise. The plot is unavoidably similar to the first instalment and yet somehow feels more cliched and tired.
Although delivering the occasional laugh, 'Sorority Rising' doesn't have the same clout or comedy factor as its predecessor. The muddled story arch and moral battle faced by sorority 'Kappa Nu' makes for uncomfortable viewing, as do some scenes which stretch the realm of plausibility to ridiculous lengths, even for a film of this type.
Despite a brilliant performance from Rose Byrne who stands out as the best credit to the movie, 'Sorority Rising' proves that a sequel to a film with such a narrow premise is always a risky endeavour.
