It seems that all it takes for a movie to get a sequel today is to do very well at the box office. It doesn't matter if the story doesn't need a sequel or if its needed, it'll be made. Neighbors 2 scores a couple of big laughs, but overall its a very superfluous sequel that is wholly unnecessary.
A lot of the bigger laughs I got were from the slapstick humour, so it used that as a crutch. It was not terrible, but it was far from the quality of the original.
