Review of Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) by Luke B — 14 Jun 2016
This is a pretty decent sequel as far as comedy sequels go. They are usually a huge let down, but Neighbors 2 manages to stay on top. It isn't great by any means, however Seth Rogen and Zac Efron manage to make it enjoyable. Their pure on screen presence is fantastic and they have great chemistry. It has some really good laughs throughout the film, and the entirety of the film is upbeat. Unfortunately the only performances I cared about were Seth Rogen's and Zac Efron's. Rose Byrne was fine in the movie, but I just don't find her funny. Chloe Grace Moretz really annoyed me though. I know her character was meant to be annoying, but I think it was her performance that annoyed me. She really rubbed me the wrong way, and I wish someone else had been in this role. I definitely didn't find her that funny, and it really let the film down. She felt incredibly awkward in this role. I also think they were a little too heavy handed with the feminism. It was very obvious they were trying to shove it in your face.
Overall it's pretty decent for a comedy sequel, with some big laughs. Rogen and Efron definitely drive the film forward, and make you enjoy it. I wish it could have been better, and it perhaps could have without Moretz in there.
