Review of Neighbor (2009) by Jason S — 26 Jul 2010
NEIGHBOR is first off AWESOME! We have a script that is solid and characters that have depth to them so you actually feel for them and then you have some of the most gruesome scenes to grace television screens EVER.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Christian Campbell several years back when he played a young Johnathan Larson in Tick, Tick BOOM! when it toured the US and he was simply one of the nicest people I have ever met.
This guy has range to have seen him do live musical theatre and then to practically rip your heart out as the victim in this film just shows how great of an actor he is. America Olivo is the beautiful and sexy NEIGHBOR who isn't all she seems to be and she does a brilliant job as "The Girl.
" America is so beautiful she could never be capable of the things she does in this movie right? Whew - there are scenes that had me cringing and yelling out loud and the make up crew is to be honored for their work in creating such visuals.
There is one scene that literally had me falling off the couch practically and I still hurt in my lower area of body just thinking about it. There is another scene involving a blonde and a saw that had me picking my jaw up off the floor as well.
The fact that America played this part just blew me away and it also blew me away that Christian and America are married in real life so I wonder how a love connection was made during filming as there is no love in this movie whatsoever.
Both America and Christian are two great actors that really do deserve to break out in a huge way as does the director Robert. I am beyond impressed with his work with this movie. I had been waiting for this movie FOREVER and it was so worth the wait.
I can't wait to meet America at Fear Fest in Dallas in May just to tell her how much she rocked in this movie. Do not rent - buy NEIGHBOR if you are a true fan of horror because this is old school horror with the real deal gore effects - no CGI bull and it is well worth the purchase to add to your library.
I cannot wait for the next one.
