Review of Needful Things (1993) by James S — 15 Dec 2007
Some of Stephen Kings best works have made poor movies, so when we're faced with one of his least memorable novels, hopes do not run high.
Needful Things does start out well. The token creepy stranger in a small town is woven well but when its revealed that all his plan is is to get the locals to play pranks on each other in a bid to bring about anarchy, interest is soon on the wane.
The film's second half veers off into ridiculousness before spewing out a couple of explosions, bad performances and general apathy before spluttering to whimpering climax.
There is no need for things like this.
