Review of Need for Speed (2014) by Greg S — 03 Aug 2014

I was taken to see this movie basically against my will. I had zero expectations. I was pleasantly surprised how entertaining it actually was. Now, it is a true guilty pleasure I watch every 8 to 12 months or so. Yes, it has stock characters and is imperfect indeed, but it also has roaring engines, lots of speed, loads of action, filming in downtown Detroit(my hometown), fine acting from Aaron Paul, and just plain delivers 2 hrs of simple, fun escapism. Isn't that what movies should be all about?

The critics despise this but if you like Smokey and the Bandit with way more speed, a heck of a lot more action, and less humor and sillyness, I think you'll find this is actually a really decent watch- just for fun.
