Alexander Payne does a great job of taking stubborn characters and developing an interesting narrative around them which is the case with the movie Nebraska. Its a picture of the lonely west/Midwest towns where old ways of life are more alive than anything in the modern day.
It's a charming story, with really inspired performances by Will forte, and Bruce Dern....the hapless old man who is desperate to put a shining star on his dwindling life. It's somber, and humorous, but also a bit too quaint.
