Review of Nebraska (2013) by Randy P — 17 Aug 2015
What would a senile old man do with a million dollars? Well, he'd buy a new air compressor and a pick-up truck, that's what. Nebraska is one of the more under-appreciated classics of the last few years.
I fell in love with it almost immediately. The characters are quirky in such a real, subtle sense. You want the old man, Woody, to be happy, even though you know it will only lead to rejection. It's a fable about patience, and unconditional love.
The father-son dynamic is really, really touching. A little movie like this was easily shadowed by the bigger films it was up against in 2013, but it accomplishes what many films in 2013 couldn't.
. finding the sublime in the simplistic. Nebraska is a million-dollar winner in my book.
