Review of Nebraska (2013) by Joe R — 28 Jan 2015
This movie, in a word, is heartfelt. Dern and Forte's relationship is simply wonderful. Forte's compassion and concern for his father are never lost on the audience, and Dern's stubborn persistence to go on this final journey drive the story well.
The cinematography is absolutely beautiful. I felt like each shot has an incredible amount of texture, depth, and richness despite being in black and white. I could easily relate to this father-son duo, trying to make something of themselves, and ultimately needing one another to realize what was important to them all along.
Also, the music couldn't have been more fitting to this movie. Quibb, too, was outstanding and definitely deserving of her Oscar nomination as Kate, Dern's wife: "You all can go FUCK yourselves!".
