The slow pace and single-minded plot slowly reveals a cast you're terrified you'll someday be able to sympathize with, and sets the mood perfectly for when things really begin to happen an hour in.
For those of you like my girlfriend who find it difficult to make it to the extended climax I beg you, if the name "Ed Pegram" doesn't elicit an immediate surge of hatred then you haven't made it far enough to know what you're missing out on.
Pop some headphones in, be soothed by the sombre soundtrack, and get ready to be wonderfully surprised.
