Review of Near Dark (1987) by Fred D — 15 Jun 2008
It's a road movie, it's a western, it's a classic redneck horror all in one. It's gritty, it's about survival, it's brutal, it's honest and confronting made before the 90's romanticization of the vampire genre. Vampires are brought home, become everyday folk not distant immortals from a bygone era. It's a must see for any fan of the vampire flick and downright shits on most of the crap that's been put out. For instance 'Vampires' is an outright -unsuccessfull- rip-off of Bigelow's classic.
Keep an eye out for a classic scene in cinema history which is the shoot out between the coppers and the vampires in the motel room.
Botton line is, with three of the actors from Aliens in this movie, what's not to love?
