Review of Near Dark (1987) by Gary C — 25 Jul 2009

This movie isn't terrible. It's not wonderful, but it does have a lot going for it. It's nice to see an 80s vampire movie like this again where the vampires don't dress in black latex, listen to pumping house beats, or sparkle in the daylight.

This is more traditional, with a pretty cruel gang of vampires acting like a bunch of hoodlums. Adrian Pasdar has come a long way since then, and his acting isn't the best in this movie. There are a couple of really great scenes, like a shootout at a motel where Pasdar has to sprint through sunlight and catches on fire and a great scene at the end where Bill Paxton punches a truck a buncha times.

Pretty cool movie if you like 80s-brand campy horror.
