Review of Near Dark (1987) by Tom M — 05 Feb 2011
I don't understand why critics go gaga over this movie. It's a perfectly respectable pass at a vampire flick but I just don't see much more here. Based on the hype I was expecting the "Blood Simple" of vampire westerns.
What I saw instead was a competent flick that pushes the right dramatic buttons without achieving depth or nuance. And 'curing' vampires by transfusion? It sort of subverts the entire logic of the vampire flick.
Meh.
