Review of Near Dark (1987) by Ryan M — 04 Nov 2012
Definitely one of the better vampire flicks to come out of the 80's or any decade for the matter. Bigelow's direction is consistently exciting and stylistic and her avocation of the bleak Southern landscape is commendable.
Thanks to this film, I am now obsessed with the adorable Jenny Wright. The film carries a whole lot more emotional weight and dramatic depth than most vampire flicks, although unfortunately spirals out of its own control in the third act, which proves to be a disappointing conclusion to an otherwise fantastic, badass, and equal parts romantic and scary vampire movie.
