Review of Navy Seals vs. Zombies (2016) by Jay S — 19 Oct 2015
Well... you have to give them kudos for trying. After World War Z pitted elite Navy Seals against a swarming pack of zombies and did it so well, who wouldn't want a full length-movie that revolves around the theme? I know I surely did! BUT, this is what we got.
One of the worst scripts I've ever listened to, with military jargon and dialogue that struggled to sound even remotely authentic. Another issue was that extremely poor choices were written into the film in order to build "suspense" (which is no longer suspenseful when they're decisions that lack common sense), when the very scenario of a city filled with fast-moving zombies is horrifying enough that if the writers simply allowed their imaginations to play the teams progression out naturally, plenty of thrilling things would have happened naturally without writing in extremely poor choices.
It didn't feel like I was watching America's military elite go up against the undead. As well, although so much can be done with greenscreen, sometimes it's better to find creative ways to work around it, just as talented filmmakers have for decades, rather than use it.
