Review of Natural City (2003) by David D — 20 May 2010
Very good production values (not quite on a par with the best Hollywood can do but better than most indies or Asian films) and a full blown vision of a future world combine to make this an impressive and enjoyable film.
Personally, I never fully understood the plotline about the villain cyborg and what hne was up to. Maybe that was poor storytelling on the part of the director or maybe it was me reading subtitles and trying to keep up with the complexities.
The human element was very effectively carried by a talented cast. I didn't find the final battle excesively long although I am not especially fond if the Asian balletic fight scenes. In my opinion, this film is not in a class with Blade Runner but it is a solidly entertaining film that rises above just being SFX and action to have considerable emotional content and perhaps a message or two.
